Case Study

Accreditation works in partnership with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to enhance the quality of inspection services of Petroleum Road Tankers

The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of enhancing quality assurance in the inspection services of petroleum road tankers. The ERC in collaboration with KENAS has already engaged in nationwide sensitisation forums educating inspection agencies that deal with inspection of petroleum tankers on the benefits of accreditation. As a regulator, the ERC has issues public notices and announcements emphasising that petroleum tankers should conform to the specifications of certain Kenya Standards to which inspection by accredited inspection agencies is required.  This MoU is part of KENAS strategy of collaborating with regulators in the Kenyan economy that entrenches the value for accreditation through partnerships with regulators and state agencies.
