Case Study

Accident and insurance premium reductions for companies certified to OHSAS 18001:07 in Italy

INAIL – Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority, the National governmental Institute for insurance against Accidents at Work has carried out extensive research on organisations who use the Health & Safety standard, OHSAS 18001.

Their research has lead them to promote the adoption of an occupational Occupational Health & Safety management system as one of the most relevant instruments for organisations to prevent accidents at work.  For employers, the reduction in accidents where such a system has been implemented has produced benefits beyond the safety of its workers. These improvements have also now resulted in lower insurance premiums being charged. Firms are seeing reductions in insurance premiums of up to 28%.

These results were presented at the 2016 ISO event, Supporting the reduction of insurance losses – the role of standards. INAIL’s presentation can be viewed here.
